PREFER + NOUN + TO + NOUN 
PREFERENCES
Examples:
He prefers ice hockey than football. 
He prefers ice hockey to football.  PREFER STH TO STH

2)     WASHING
TAKE + INFINITIVE => SPEND + GERUND
IT TAKES (QUANTITY + TIME) TO + INVINITIVE + TO => I SPEND (QUANTITY + TIME) + GERUND
Examples:
I spent three days to clean my flat. 
I spent three days cleaning my flat.  SPEND (QUANTITY + TIME) GERUND

3)     SO
SO => used to say that someone does something because of the reason just stated. 
CONJUNCTION
Examples:
He was feeling hungry, and he made himself a pizza. 
He was feeling hungry, so he made himself a pizza.  SO + VERB

4)     TO GO
USED TO + INFINITIVE => habit in the past.
MODAL VERB
Examples:
He use to smoke 20 cigarettes a day. 
He used to smoke 20 cigarettes a day.  USED TO + INFINITIVE

5)     ON HIS
ON YOUR OWN => without help, alone, without anyone else. 
IDIOM
Examples:
My brother-in-law did it all by his own. 
My brother-in-law did it all on his own.  ON + ONE'S + OWN
